The affiliation of Engineering colleges in Tamilnadu were brought under Anna University in the year 2001 by the Government of Tamilnadu in order to have uniform curriculum and Regulations for Technical Education. For the purpose of conducting examination the colleges were grouped in the basis of their location and was categorised as ten zones and a zonal office was established in each zone to assist the Office of The Controller of Examinations of Anna University.
Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology was assigned as the centre for Zonal office, Zone 9 under which there were 32 colleges belonging to the districts of Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Dindigul, Theni and Madurai. As the number of colleges increased the number of zones were increased to 20 in the year 2012 by the University and the Zonal office in Karaikudi was assigned as Zone-14 with 20 Colleges in the districts of Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai.
The Zonal office is headed by the Principal of the institution as the Zonal Coordinator and is assisted by a Zonal Officer and a team of administrative staff. For the past 20 years this institution is assisting the University in the conduct of examinations for the affiliated institutions under Zone-14 (formerly Zone 9) successfully.
